Buffalo
This Isn’t Your Grandad’s Buffalo. When most Americans think of Buffalo, they think of the thundering herds on the Great Plains, or spicy chicken wings on game day. This hat has no relation to either. The Jacaru Buffalo Hat is a classic Aussie hat crafted from Australian Water Buffalo leather. Yes, that Buffalo. The one Crocodile Dundee subdued with his Outback Jedi mind control.
Crafted for Life. Thinner, lighter, and smoother than Cow hide, the Buffalo Hat delivers a smother, lighter look and feel than a comparable cow hide hat. Thicker and stiffer than Kangaroo, the Buffalo gives you a smoother, more defined shape than you will expect from a Kangaroo hat. Jacaru has crafted the Buffalo Hat in the classic Australian style which is as fitting at the Sydney Opera House as the Outback.
The 3” shaped Brim helps keep the sun off your face, neck, and ears, and helps cut the glare from the sun. The 3 5/8” Crown height gives your head breathing room, without crossing the line to be confused with an American Western hat. Prepared for the elements, your Buffalo is water repellant and delivers the highest level of sun protection (50+ UPF).
Made to Stand the Test of Time. Like all Jacaru Australian Made hats, the Buffalo is made to stand the test of time, and is backed by Jacaru’s 10-Year Warranty.
Your Buffalo Hat is Hand Made in Australia, with:
- Australian Water Buffalo (Feral Buffalo) Leather
- Brim Width: 3” and Crown Height: 3 5/8” (based on size Large)
- 50+ UPF Sun Rating and a 10-Year Warranty.
Jacaru is the gold standard for quality, everyday wear, Leather hats, and has been making out-of-this-world hats since America first put men on the moon in 1969. There are many great hats to choose from, but if you are looking for
The Australian Water Buffalo Unlike Kangaroos and Crocodiles, the Water buffalo is not indigenous to Australia. Indonesian and Indian Water Buffaloes were first introduced to Australia in the early the 1820’s as a beast of burden and food source for new settlements in the remote Northern Territory. When the settlements failed, the Buffalo were released into the wild, and it turns out these Feral Buffaloes thrive in Australia.
Endangered? No. With few natural predators, the herds quickly grow to the point where they have a significant negative impact on the overall ecosystem. In an effort to maintain balance in the ecosystem, Australia manages the herds through hunting and culling programs. Similar to the programs used to manage the Kangaroo herds, culled animals are used for food, leather, and other products.
Heavier Than Kangaroo, Lighter Than Cow Hide. Hold a Kangaroo hat in one hand and a comparable Cow hide hat in the other, and you will feel a significant difference in weight. Kangaroo being ½ the weight and twice the strength of Bovine (cow) leather. Put down the Kangaroo hat and pick up a hat of Australian Water Buffalo and you will notice the Buffalo is heavier than the Roo was, but it is still noticeably lighter than the Cow. A difference you may feel on your head.
How Do I Select A Hat That Fits? There are 3 keys to selecting the right hat for you:
1. The hat must fit your eye. If you don’t like the look of the hat, if it does not match your sense of style, you are unlikely to wear it once you get it home. Only you can determine if a hat fits your eye.
2. The hat must fit your head. Your hat should hug your head, but not squeeze your head. Comfortably snug when sitting properly on your head is the correct fit. Only you can determine if a hat fits your head.
3. To get the right fit, start by measuring your head to determine your hat size. We can help you with that. See the Hat Sizing and Care information in the What to Know section of this site for more details.
